From the designer… This 4,400 square foot home is located just off the golf course green in the suburbs of the Twin Cities. It was designed for a mostly retired couple wanting to establish a place to land near their now adult children and ever-growing family of grandkids. The couple desired a heavy focus of the design to be on the gathering spaces such as the character-filled kitchen with lots of mixed materials and functionality. The soft green cabinet color, sprinkled around the kitchen and pantry, marries the space beautifully with the Borghini Calacatta marble and white oak ceiling and cabinetry. For a family who enjoys healthy cooking, the custom built-in butcher block portion of the island adds a nice touch. The entire space is lit by the artfully curved brass six-light chandelier over the island.
Among many standout moments throughout the home, is the stunning barrel vaulted stone-draped hallway on the main level. This posed many challenges with intersecting rooms coming directly into the stone curved hallway, but proper planning and teamwork made this one of the favorite moments in the home. Just off the kitchen, through this stone barrel vault hallway, you are led to a moody and masculine office, mudroom, and a powder bath dripping in wine tones with a custom vanity with bun feet and a stunning curved marble top and backsplash that is topped with adorable scalloped pendants.
Designer, Laura Tays, loves to bring in elements of years past to ensure the spaces feel warm and lived in – not too stuffy. Not only does Laura show this in the furnishing selections but also when selecting or utilizing hard finish materials throughout the home. Some of the custom cabinetry was designed to be made out of reclaimed wood versus new, and it adds so much texture to the space, particularly to the primary suite bathroom cabinetry and closet island fabricated in a reclaimed custom dark-stained pine.
