Nestled on the shores of Bay Head, NJ, this historic 1895 Cape Cod home underwent a thoughtful renovation that expanded its footprint while preserving its original charm. Colette Interiors crafted every detail to seamlessly integrate with the home’s quaint coastal cottage charm ensuring a seamless blend of old-world elegance and modern comfort. From the designer… Our home is a cape cod style home, built in 1895. The coastal cottage is located in Bay Head, NJ, a barrier island separating Barnegat Bay from the Atlantic Ocean. This renovation was inclusive of extending the footprint of our second floor, adding on to our primary bedroom space, incorporating closets in all bedrooms that formerly had none, and adding a second bathroom primary en suite. It also included the renovation of the first floor bathroom and adjacent mudroom space.

As always is the case with renovating an old home, the challenge is in maintaining the home’s originality and authenticity. We wanted to be sure we were not going to take away from the quaint, cottage like charm of its original exterior by adding onto it. We worked closely with the architect and builder to make the extension feel as if it had always been there. Continuing to embrace our slanted roof lines, dormers, and unique architectural details that paid homage to our home’s originality.
