The kitchen and dining room in this Granite Bay home were in need of an update to make it comfortable for the young family inhabiting it. Marin Design Co. used the existing footprint but made clever updates to take their most used spaces from dark and dreary to bright and cheery. Nicole Dianne Photography captured the incredible results in the photos below.

From the designer… After making the big move from Chicago, Il to Granite Bay, CA our clients bought their dream home, nestled in a quiet neighborhood, on a large lot with a pool, with a beautiful facade. Everything was perfect, except perhaps the dated and drab kitchen and living room.

Our clients have two young children, so the design had to be functional and practical, but we wanted it to tell a story of their love for one another and feel warm and inviting. Because it is not an entirely open space, we wanted the materials and layers to create an organic feeling. We kept the existing layout of the kitchen, but added in an arched doorway connecting the dining room to the kitchen. By adding a banquette to the dining nook and extending the cabinets, the kitchen was able to maximize functionality. To do this, a window was removed in the existing area, but with the new materials in the space, it looks brighter and more intentional. The new design connects the dining nook so it extends the kitchen space making it more usable and practical for the family.

Perhaps our favorite addition to the kitchen remodel was adding in a hidden pantry. The hidden pantry is flush with the refrigerator, making it look seamless. Once you open the doors, you step into the walk-in pantry which has ample space for storing food and extra kitchen supplies.

This was a beautiful home to update. It had such great bones but needed new life to be breathed into it. We are so delighted to have worked with such a wonderful family and help them create their forever home.
