This Austin spec house sat devoid of personality until Audrey Scheck Design brought in timeless finishes and organic elements to this family home renovation. The result of their careful planning is an intimate home full of character finely tuned to their clients’ personal style and needs. From the designer… Audrey Scheck Design (ASD) oversaw the full house remodel, design, and styling of a newly built 4,000 square-foot home with four bedrooms and four bathrooms in Austin, Texas. The design of the home is rooted in earth tones pulling inspiration from nature with organic materials, layers, and texture. In an effort to infuse more character into the home, the team removed and donated all of the builder-grade fixtures and finishes (lighting, plumbing, flooring, hardware, etc.) They replaced those items with pieces that more closely aligned with the family’s timeless, organic style. Incorporating wood tones, mixing hardware finishes, and layering lighting throughout the home helped create a foundation for a furnishing and styling plan full of corresponding elements.

The team’s personal favorite room in the home has to be the kitchen! The monochromatic space still feels interesting thanks to the imperfections in the Zellige tile, and the custom vent hood helps elevate the space. The paneled appliances tie everything together seamlessly, and the marble grounds the space in that natural, organic feel.

ASD also embarked on a full backyard renovation by demolishing the original stairwell and building a custom deck that surrounds an above-ground hot tub. They installed artificial turf and worked with an architect to create a landscape plan that mirrors the aesthetic of the interior of the home.

Designing this home certainly didn’t come without any challenges. Audrey personally designed the home and remotely managed the remodel during the height of COVID in 2020 without ever seeing it in person. Many valuable lessons were learned, which the team now incorporates into their clients’ projects.
