Walnut and white oak are classics when it comes to home design, and there’s a reason for it. When mixed in this home they create a warm and comfortable environment that balances beautifully with the clean and modern lines of this fully renovated home, designed by Jessica Reynaud. From the designer… This project was fun and challenging because my client didn’t have a defined “style” and was open to new ideas. One of our main goals was taking a basic house and integrating timeless character that would make the home feel unique. With these goals in mind, it was very important to bring in custom materials and interior architectural elements to create that personalized feeling of home for the client.

A full interior demo of the home allowed us total creative control which included: space planning to create the best use of the home’s features as well as adding larger windows to maximize the views. A good example of this can be found in the kitchen where we completely bumped out the wall by the sink and created a huge window with a custom ledge detail to highlight the beautiful view. We wanted to create an authentic and thoughtful space, which included custom cabinet profiles, floor-to-ceiling pantry doors, and custom tile on the range wall. The mix of the materials really brings warmth to the kitchen area and creates a natural, and welcoming feeling.

Some of the other elements that helped to make this space truly unique were the handmade tile selection and touches of white oak and walnut throughout the home. Walnut was used for a small shelf in the primary bath above the custom star-and-cross mosaic pattern, a detail that adds to both form and function. White oak was used throughout as well, in the custom window trim and interior/exterior doors.
