There may be nothing sweeter than giving an old home new life, and that’s just what Sage did when they took on this renovation for a family of five. By reclaiming unused space and eschewing age-old seating arrangements, Sage created a breezy coastal home that’s in harmony with the way this modern family actually lives. Tour the beautiful photos by Freebird Photography to see how it all came together.
From the designer… Our clients had an in-law suite in their home from the previous owners that they didn’t have a need for, so we decided it was time to make that usable space for their family of five. They really wanted the home to feel open and airy yet grounded with natural tones and textures
So we opened up the wall between the kitchen leading into what is now their main living room. This made their first floor feel much more open yet each space was still separate from one another. Their kitchen is literally in the center of the home, so we wanted to anchor the space with these gorgeous, rich blue cabinets that have a subtle wood accent as the uppers to continue that warmth we have throughout the rest of the home.
Our clients decided they wanted to get rid of their dinner table and use the island instead so we were able to give them the island of their dreams- coming in at a whopping 12 feet! Complete with tons of storage as well as a separate seating area for them to sit and eat.
On the other side of their kitchen, we designed an informal seating area that would serve as a space for family game nights, dinner party overflow, and a bar area. We also gave them swivel chairs so that guests can easily transition the conversation from one space to another.
Most of the furniture we used throughout the house was custom made through our shop and made especially for them and their space. The built-in media center was also designed by Sage and custom-made to fit perfectly in between two windows in their new living room.
