Loaded with rows of windows and fireplaces galore, this country house is unlike any other. By embracing the home’s old-world charm and injecting some Napa inspiration, Nyla Free Designs Inc. created a stylish yet casual haven for family relaxation. From the designer… European country house meets Napa Valley vineyard was the inspiration and influence for this rural prairie home. Situated on 60 acres off a windy road in central Alberta, this home was designed for relaxed family living. With an old world, life well lived charm, each room was carefully considered in an intentional way. Entertaining, family time, relaxation, and joy were at the forefront of the design process. This home has a special feeling, one reminiscent of days gone by, and the old made new again and with fireplaces in almost every room, there is certainly no shortage of warmth.
To embrace the view, the kitchen was designed with no upper cabinets. The overall design aesthetic is less utilitarian with its paneled appliances and furniture style island surrounded by hand-painted terracotta tiles. The request for a clean visual into the kitchen meant including two stools at the end of the island rather than along the front.
The ‘H’ style plan provides interesting vistas and visuals throughout, which also proved challenging with site lines. A cohesive palette and material selection was considered with this in mind however also offers a curiosity as you turn each corner.
