This home has been described in terms reminiscent of fairytales, and it’s no wonder why. The dulcet tones and deeply organic textures feel like they’ve sprung right out of a storybook. Photographer, Vivian Johnson, did a spectacular job capturing the small details that Brodie Jenkins so carefully crafted in her forever home. See how the second-phase French Country renovations created a soothing space for all, including the new baby introduced in chapter two.

From the designer… We bought this house in 2019 and the bones were incredible, but the interiors felt very dated. The vibe was very 90’s and quirky, and I wanted the inside of the house better reflect the French Norman architecture. My plan was to take it back to its roots while still keeping the design fresh. I had such a strong vision that I ended up deciding to design and project manage the remodel myself. It was my first time designing a home, and I absolutely fell in love with the process. I can be a bit obsessive, and I found myself completely consumed by the project, researching everything and trying to fill the gaps in my knowledge as quickly as possible. It was an incredible training ground and taught me so much.

We finished the core of the remodel by November 2020 when we moved in, but we left a bathroom and adjacent spare bedroom mostly unfinished. So the first round of photographs of our home didn’t include those rooms. When I got pregnant, I decided we needed to tackle those projects before the baby came – the spare bedroom would be his nursery, and the bathroom would eventually be his as well. I didn’t want to be in the middle of a loud construction project with a new baby. We managed to get everything done in pretty record time, and I’m so happy with how it all turned out. Fun fact: we had contractors here installing the nursery closet doors on the day I went into labor. I was project managing in between contractions, and by the time they left, it was basically time to head to the hospital!

Vivian did a beautiful job capturing everything. The house is more lived in, especially with our family’s new addition, and it is lovely to have photos of the house that reflect our time living here and the design progress that has happened since we moved in.
