After years of love, Helen Parker, Creative Director of deVOL, decided to give their Sebastian Cox kitchen a well-deserved expansion. Now, when customers come to tour the showroom not only can they take in the modern-rustic details up close, but they can enter the space and envision it as their own. What do you think? Can you imagine this space in your own home?
From the designer… Our first Sebastian Cox Kitchen showroom display was fitted at Cotes Mill back in the early summer of 2015. We first launched the kitchen range at Clerkenwell Design Week, it got so much love, and afterward, we reused the furniture in the showroom. The display was quite simple and minimal and whilst we loved it for eight years, we recently felt ready for a change. We decided to completely refresh the middle floor of our beloved Mill and introduce a much larger and more substantial Sebastian Cox kitchen display for our customers to enjoy.
Atmospheric glazed partitions have been added between the ancient beams and posts of the building, they have given us new spaces to put base cupboards and create a whole new layout. The blush-coloured bare brick walls are the perfect rustic backdrop to the Sebastian Cox furniture, complementing the contemporary, simple style of the cupboards. Our ‘Inky Blue Black’ tint was the main choice for the cabinetry but with a little splash of ‘Natural’ for the sink cupboard and full height storage run. This is a tried and tested combination and one that will never get old in our book.
Five metres of copper worktop with integrated copper sinks is quite a statement, but as always with our copper worktops, there is no glare or brashness, just a soft gentle glow. A huge island on elegant legs is big enough to do just about anything and everything and has drawers deep enough to store just about anything and everything. Rarely has a piece of furniture this big appeared so understated and yet remained so incredibly versatile.
The fitted pantry and prep table area is a new favourite spot for us, the shelves and Heirloom Task Light create a wonderfully moody place to display and prep, and the pantry with a beautifully integrated fridge is about as pretty as an appliance can possibly look.
When you enter this new display, you’re instantly calm. The soft colours and café curtains make you feel cosseted and at ease. It encourages people to stop, pull up a stool at the island, and imagine the pleasure they would feel if this kind of kitchen was in their own home. Come and explore, you’ll find it at Cotes Mill, Nottingham Road, Cotes, Leicestershire, LE12 5TL.
