The challenges of updating a historic home are well documented but no easier to solve. Tight spaces and lack of storage were just one part of the solutions Pheasant Lane Designs had to bring to this incredible remodel. Their thoughtful approach provided high impact changes for the family and low impact on the historic integrity of the house, creating a gorgeous home that spans generations. See just how their plans came to fruition in the tour below!

From the designer… When this cool family moved into their historic home in Ridgewood, NJ they recognized its true potential. The old house had good bones, but the finishings were dark and dated. Pheasant Lane Designs brightened the entry and living room with new millwork paneling and sanded and stained floors a lighter tone. In the living room, we wanted to upgrade the fireplace surround while still honoring the home’s history. We achieved this and then some with new marble, a sleek mantle, and dramatic lighting to brighten the space. The materials chosen provided a soft contrast against the white millwork paneling of the walls and added warmth and depth.

The entryway was very tight; our solution was to create a built-in closet and mudroom hidden behind subtle doors that still made a statement through textured grasscloth wallpaper and acrylic handles. Best yet, we used the same grasscloth in the entry vestibule to make you feel enveloped in a warm, welcoming hug upon your first step inside. The petite powder room provided a unique challenge. We maximized the impact of this small space by layering texture and pattern. The materials selected provided depth and contrast through marble tiles, metallic accented geometric wallpaper, and faceted hanging pendants with antiqued mirror faces. We’re particularly proud of the cute, tiny sink paired with a charming mirror.
