You read correctly, a family of EIGHT lives here. Proof that you can indeed have a stylish home with kiddos (six of them if you please). And also a really great excuse to have a big chefs kitchen! When KT Marshall stepped in to help this family remodel their home, she took a timeless and classic framework and turned it into a refreshing, lovely space that invites the act of gathering in every beautiful room. KT is giving us a bit more behind the design below, along with imagery by Kelli Kroneberger. When you’re done, make sure to head over to KT’s site for even more of this abode. Yes, there’s more!
From the Designer, KT Marshall… This home is dear to my heart. It was my first full design with a trusting and amazing client who knew I was ready to take the next step as an interior designer and encouraged me to use her remodel to get there. It was a pleasure every single day to work with her! Literally, a dream client and a dream job.
Once the remodel was underway, we went to work with the goal to lighten the existing framework and bring more of her family’s personality and youthful energy into the space. The bones of her home were timeless and classic, but the finishes and furniture felt too stiff and formal. There were several rounds of presenting ideas and tweaking them, but we were on the same page almost from the beginning and that made the process a breeze. A few tweaks to the design and we were off.
My client gravitated towards environments that were clean and natural, feminine and thoughtful. We pulled in some of her existing furniture, recovered others, and added pieces sparingly. We didn’t want to detract from the amazing views in every room or add pieces that her children would trip over, find uncomfortable or worse, not use! The color palette was kept quiet and the pieces we added were chosen for their inviting texture and timeless quality. Durability was an issue as well. (Did I mention that they have six kids?!)
One of my client’s requests was to find a space to add frames full of inspirational quotes and personal family sayings. With so many beautiful windows to take in the view, the existing wall space was limited. So we tucked that gallery wall into a hallway and it’s one of my favorite moments in the home!
I couldn’t be more proud of the final result. The home feels peaceful and happy, so much brighter and more inviting. All the rooms have soft places to gather, little touches of beauty that make you smile, pieces that feel personal to the family and a cohesiveness that feels thoughtful without being forced. I think that’s a hard balance to find in design. The process was as beautiful as the end result. And having it photographed felt like Christmas.
I am no social media expert, but deciding to have this home professionally photographed by the talented Kelli Kroneberger was a game changer. She captured so many beautiful moments and I’m thrilled to be able to share it. It makes me so happy to see this home get the love it deserves.
