Jill Goldberg, of Hudson Interior Designs, wanted to create an abode that was as cool as her laidback clients. She captured their west coast vibes, specifically the causal but sturdy feeling of Seattle design, and brought a little edge to this quaint New England home. You can read about Jill’s process and check out the beautiful photos below.
From the designer… This project is close to my heart, as the clients are very close friends. So from the start I wanted to be certain that I created a home and feeling that was perfect – something that they didn’t even know they wanted. This is a smaller home that contains a family of five but the neighborhood is perfect and they didn’t want to leave… so we worked to make their downstairs space feel larger and allow for better use.
First things first, we took out the wall that separated the dining room from the kitchen so we could create a single open concept space. This has allowed for this family to entertain friends and family in a comfortable setting not cramped between two rooms. In the other areas of the downstairs level we upgraded the design, furnishings, color, and lighting to express that Seattle vibe I described earlier, it’s casual but sturdy. The materials are performance and allow the family to do whatever they want without concern over stains etc.
But back to the kitchen – as I feel the green wall tiles are my favorite unique feature adding that organic color tone to the warm neutrals throughout. We removed the traditional window framing and framed the windows with tile, which gives them something special.. especially when washing the dishes and staring into their backyard.
This project has been completed for over 12 months, and I still get texts every month telling me who has visited the home, and their compliments… it feels great to know my friends are happy with their home and proud to show it off!
