When designer, Lindsay Laine, and builder, Dan Ludwig, decided to merge their collective skills to form a Design & Build business, all new branding was top of their priority list. Their branding had to represent their new joint venture without stepping on the toes of their individual businesses, and that’s where Kristin, of Made by K, came in. Kristin carefully crafted a new brand image that embodies the values of their partnership, Oak & Olive. Learn a bit more about their brand and how Kristin brought it to life in the story below.

From the Brand Designer… Lindsay Laine Interiors had worked with many contractors, but when she met Dan of Hometown Design + Build, she knew they needed to partner up and take on projects as a united team. Lindsay and Dan each had their own existing businesses so the goal of the new business was to rewrite the book on the residential renovation process and truly put the -design- back into design + build. Oak & Olive was born.

This branding project was a unique collaboration. I was tasked with creating the identity of this new business that would represent both the designer and the contractor. They had agreed on the name, Oak & Olive so my mission was to translate that into an identity and website.

We used line art imagery of an olive branch that intertwined into the typography, showing the connection between the Oak and the Olive. The Oak represents the solid foundation of wood in the build aspect of the project. The Olive represents the organic living design of the finished project. We also stayed in line with the organic element by mixing greens and warm neutrals. To keep the identity from being too feminine or too masculine, we used a clean serif font and added some movement with the letters which struck a nice balance for both businesses. The website is clean with neutral colors so the photos can stand out.

“Each of us could opt to work with any designer or builder. It is because of the way we work together, each of us thoroughly committed to client happiness that this design & build firm is founded on. We have developed a process that melds both of our practices, resulting in a seamless experience for our clients.” – Dan + Lindsay
