Burcu Ercetin, Principal Interior Designer & Founder of Design & Curations, has transformed her family home in the Atlanta suburbs, seamlessly blending timeless charm with modern elegance. Working with the home’s tall arched windows she introduced neutral, organic touches to create a harmonious balance between classic and contemporary design. Photographer, Elizabeth Lauren Granger, expertly captured the renovation, showcasing the tranquil moments that make this home a peaceful retreat from daily life.
From the designer… Amidst the pandemic, I founded Design & Curations, an Atlanta Based Hybrid Design Studio, offering virtual interior design for anyone, and in-person interior design for Greater Atlanta Area. Along with my recent design projects, I dove right into creating our dream home, combining family-friendly functional details with organic modern aesthetics. After welcoming our second child, we sought to transform our space into a serene sanctuary that integrates natural elements and earthy textures, providing a calming retreat amidst our busy family and work life.
After months of searching, we discovered a unique home with striking arched windows, tall vaulted ceilings, and lush green views that captured our imagination. Our goal was to preserve these architectural features while modernizing them, starting with a redesign of the main floor. We transformed the kitchen into the heart of the home by reconfiguring the layout, adding a range and hood, and incorporating a wide island, which now features a central family-style design and a strategically placed arched window framing a picturesque lake view over the sink. A captivating checkerboard tile detail in the sunroom bridges the kitchen and living room, adding visual interest.
Designed with our two small children in mind, our choices blend functionality with beauty, creating a space that exemplifies family-friendly practicality and aesthetic sophistication. Rich neutral tones and diverse textures throughout the home offer a tranquil sanctuary, reflecting the essence of Design & Curations. This renovation, completed with precision over two and a half months, not only showcases a full kitchen overhaul but also demonstrates cost-effective strategies for modernizing older homes while maintaining their authentic charm.
