Situated in an idyllic golf estate overlooking the course, this gorgeous contemporary home begs one to step outside. Yvonne O’Brien, of The Private House Company, was given carte blanch to create a home that embraced the feeling of being outdoors while remaining modern and refined. Yvonne used earthy textures and organic textiles in every corner of this stunning South African home to connect her clients to the outdoor space they adore. Take the tour below to see how!
From the designer… This Steyn City home was the third home I designed for these clients. It was a fabulous project for our team as we had the full trust of the clients and therefore had more freedom. The home is situated in a golf estate and overlooks the golf course. The only brief we were given was to make the client feel as though they were ‘in the bush’, however, we still wanted to retain the sophistication of modern day living and so it was important to marry the two ideas.
The architectural design showcases a contemporary look while the furnishings and decor are a mixture of neutrals and nature-inspired textures to create a ‘bush’ feel throughout the home. Traditional African woven baskets, stone sculptures and beads are blended with Italian furniture, giving it a classic contemporary feel with a touch of rich African culture.
They wanted the home to be a comfortable size for just the two of them but big enough for when their family visits with all of their grandchildren. The house is open plan and the interior living space opens up onto the outdoor space to allow you to feel closely connected to nature while in the house.
