Nestled within Baltimore’s esteemed Historic Homeland neighborhood, this stately abode built in the 1920’s, was given a modern yet timeless makeover. Stephanie Gamble Interiors gave this modest kitchen a heartbeat that resonates with the family who dwell here. Tour this lovely space below and see how it all came together.
From the designer… Our clients wanted a classic-modern feel to their kitchen with the space to function as an eat-in kitchen with an island for low-key meals. Their kitchen was very small, only 200 sq ft, which didn’t afford them much space for entertaining or storage, so they wanted to remove a wall that separated the kitchen and dining.
There wasn’t quite enough width in the space for a true island, but we were able to add the beautiful waterfall peninsula to the space. We added a great pantry for them to store various dry goods and snacks, and updated all the lighting and finishes. The addition of the bar in the dining room also provided them with additional storage along with two pull-out refrigerator drawers and a beverage center. We primarily used white oak cabinets to give them the classic feel they were going for and added white upper cabinets and a plastered range hood for interest. We wanted to mix the metals in the space so we opted for brushed brass and black.
Our biggest challenge – There is a very large water supply pipe that travels from the basement all the way up to the second floor and it could not be relocated. It sticks out from the wall by seven inches. This was quite the challenge but we were able to incorporate it seamlessly into the cabinetry to the left of the refrigerator. You would never know this pipe is hiding there!
