Lisa, of Innate Studio, discovered her family’s ideal home in Connecticut during the peak of the pandemic, fulfilling their desire for a space accommodating multi-generational living and closer ties to loved ones. The outdated property provided ample opportunity for a timeless transformation laced with a dash of whimsy resulting in an expansive sanctuary for the whole family, including the horses, rabbits, and chickens, to enjoy.
From the designer… As our family’s personal home, we were truly drawn to this property through what felt like fate. The timing was perfect as we stumbled upon the listing on Zillow at the peak of COVID, and having just moved into another house the year before. Additionally, the home’s vast land and layout felt absolutely ideal for all of our needs, as we were looking for a space where my mom could move in with us and one where we could be closer to my husband’s family, who lives in the nearby town.
It was a task to give the entire home a major facelift, as it was built in 1990 and showed its age. However, as a personal project, I was able to utilize all of my creative control without limits, which allowed for a really enjoyable process. Having an unused stable and two apartments on the property was icing on the cake as we renovated one of the apartments for my mom to move into, cleaned up the barn for her horses, rabbits, and chickens, and furnished the other apartment for guests.
