Seamlessly integrating an indoor-outdoor lifestyle, while preserving the nostalgic cottage charm, became the cornerstone of the design philosophy of this Newport Beach renovation. JZ Interiors‘ attention to detail resulted in a meticulously crafted home tailored to the needs and aspirations of the young family dwelling within. From the designer… I was approached for this project on two occasions – first, amidst multiple offers being made on the house, and again when the new clients acquired the property. What initially began as a modest remodel gradually evolved into an extensive renovation as we recognized the potential to optimize both space and functionality.
We expanded the available space by extending the back of the house into their patio, resulting in additional room. This allowed us to open up the kitchen and living room, while raising the roomline, enhancing the overall layout and functionality of the home. The extension not only provided extra space but also afforded us the opportunity to introduce a hallway, seamlessly connecting all the rooms in the house. This improved the flow and accessibility within the renovated space.
Our goal was to integrate the unique indoor-outdoor living experience that defines California, especially for this young family. Simultaneously, we aimed to maintain the essence of the old cottage charm that characterized this home. Balancing modern functionality with the nostalgic charm of the original structure became a key focus in our design approach.
In the end, all the changes and the extended build time proved to be worthwhile. The additional time not only allowed us to meet our initial expectations but also provided the opportunity to fully explore and customize every single detail of the project. The result was a tailored and meticulously crafted living space that reflected our ideas and vision.
