This transformed Connecticut 1920s Colonial was given a modern twist by Rehabitat Interiors, seamlessly blending contemporary style with the home’s original charm. Featuring bold color choices and clever space reconfiguration to accommodate a family of five, photographer, Rikki Snyder, beautifully captures the essence of each room, and the thoughtful design used to enhance everyday living in a historically rich home.

From the designer… This was such a fun project! Our main goal with this renovation was to respect the clients love for a modern style and honor the original architecture of the home, all while making the most of the existing space for a family of five. Our clients were brave and trusting when it came to selecting colors, materials and lighting. They weren’t afraid to go from stark, a white box living room, to moody with built-in cabinetry to match. We moved and reframed openings for function and visibility, but included the original decorative framing style found throughout the house. The living room was totally transformed with paint alone.

The biggest hurdle for our clients was figuring out storage in an old home where closets were sparse but there was lots of sports gear to go around. We worked cabinetry into every space, and the family room cabinetry features lockers on both sides of the desk for three kids and a dog. The desk even has a hidden charging station! (And all three kids put their things away perfectly and they lived happily ever after.)

The third floor bath was quite a feat, and proof that small spaces can be just as impactful as large ones with the materials used. We expanded the shower by bumping into the angled wall which allowed for a shower bench and opened up what was a tiny almost unusable shower. We expanded the vanity by making it wall to wall to optimize storage in a tight space. And the flooring is a custom penny tile pattern which is totally budget friendly.
