Serving up chill vibes and a less is more aesthetic is paramount for the design team at Sarah & Friends Interiors, and this Laguna Beach house is a perfect example of just how beautifully they do it. With the surrounding nature as their inspiration and “quality over quantity” as their maxim, they created a home that celebrates and showcases homeowners’ lifestyle. Take a peek at the gorgeous photos below to see how they achieved it.
From the designer… Nestled on a cliff in Laguna Beach, we knew right away the design of this weekend home had to be centered around its amazing view of the glimmering Pacific Ocean. With mother nature as the piece de resistance, one of our main goals was to ensure that as many rooms as possible were connected to the ocean. In the owner’s suite, this was achieved by opening up the wall between the bathroom and the bedroom and adding a large mirror over the vanity so the ocean could be enjoyed from every angle.
As a getaway home for two very busy professionals, we strived to create a relaxing place for our clients to land. The rhythm of the ocean makes it the perfect spot to unwind and re-center. With surfing being a big passion of theirs, we incorporated handmade wooden surfboards in the living and dining areas to infuse their home with objects they love. One of our client’s favorite additions is the custom fireplace we designed. It’s multifunctional as a reading nook, storage space, and a perch to warm up after surfing.
All materials and finishes were picked out with the motto “less is more”. By selecting oak, soapstone, warm whites and cedar, we kept the pallet organic and neutral to ensure the interiors would blend in with the surrounding nature and let the ocean take center stage. To create flow and cohesiveness throughout the home, we used the same materials for the custom furniture and built-ins. Everything from the vanity and floating bedside tables in the primary bedroom, to the kitchen and fireplace share the same aesthetics.
For us, this project is a beautiful testament to intentional design. In a world with seemingly endless choices, paring down, focusing on quality and finding what you love can help create a home that truly sings.
