Inspired by the most delightful childhood memory, this Blemar, New Jersey beach house was built to hold an expansive and tight-knit family. Designer, Christina Kim, brought timeless touches to this house, shaping a forever home that will host the moments of today and create the memories of tomorrow. Raquel Langworthy beautifully captured this charming home in the photos below, enjoy!

Inlet Terrace was a new build project on the water in Belmar, New Jersey, a small lively beach town. The client shared a story with me about going to the beach with her giant group of family and friends every Sunday growing up. They would all head back to her grandmother’s tiny house where she would cook for everyone, still in her bathing suit fresh from the beach. I pictured that our client would be the new matriarch of her family, cooking for everyone in her bathing suit! I kept this little story in my head throughout the entire design process

This is a “forever beach home” so while we aimed for a soft, modern design that was not overtly coastal, we wanted to convey a sense of permanence, hence the classic marble fireplace, arches, and ceiling beams. To keep the design fresh, we layered in chic vintage photography, whitewashed pine ceilings, mixed in vintage Italian chandeliers, and a ping pong inspired dining table by Aronson Woodworks.

The entire home is intentionally very light in both mood and color with the exception of the home office which is painted a custom green that was matched to a vintage lamp we sourced early on in the project.

Some fun features: We designed a custom display case to house enough stripe-y cabana towels for every guest. The hexagon shaped laundry room has the best natural light in the house and therefore we designed a small but mighty art studio for our artist client. The backyard gives way to a large triangular shaped piece of property right on the Inlet where the family launches their paddleboards and kayaks. There is a volleyball court, infinity pool, and plenty of fire pits and fireplaces for s’mores galore!
