I’m inspired on the daily by all the creatives I get to work with and I feel very lucky that some of those creatives live right here in my own backyard. Jordan and Beverly of SAGE Interior Design are two of them, and some of my very favorites. I met them shortly after we moved into our home a few years back when I stopped into their gorgeous shop in downtown Newburyport. I have more items in my home than I can count from their shop and I’m constantly amazed at the beautiful spaces they are crafting. Case in point: this cozy, eclectic living room, captured by another favorite lady of mine, Kate of Freebird Photography. Full of texture and personality, it’s just the kind of lived-in, loved-well space that I have a feeling you’ll gravitate toward, too.
From SAGE Interior Design… Stuart and Susan Meurer were referred to us by a close friend who was also a design client of ours. They contacted us to redecorate their living room in their beautiful Craftsmen style home in Newbury. They wanted to curate the space to showcase their love of art and their pieces they would collect while traveling. Susan was an art major in college and they already had an impressive collection of art and books for us to implement.
We kept the white walls and added a white sectional, creating a bright, clean backdrop. From there, we brought in brass, leather, linen and natural wood pieces to create layers of different materials and textures. This included brass lighting, leather accent chairs and bench, Icelandic sheepskin throws, a layer of colorful linen pillows, a custom made coffee table and wool floor pillows. The white sofa acts as the perfect blank canvas while the throw pillows add color and interesting patterns, the Icelandic sheepskin throws add texture to the soften the rich leather chairs and the plants add greenery.
Making sure that the space had plenty of seating was a priority since the Meurers likes to gather here with friends and family for drinks, meals, board games and conversation. It’s a comfortable, functional room and it really reflects their eclectic sense of style. We love how it turned out. Everything goes together without being obvious and matchy-matchy.
