With stunning valley views and ample space for recreation and relaxation, this backyard offers everything one might need for a long summer weekend. Inspired by an orgainic modern mediterranean aesthetic, Kristyn Harvey Interiors created multiple zones of comfort to be enjoyed by all. Take a tour of this outdoor oasis, shot by Charlotte Lea in the story below.
From the designer… This family of four wanted their backyard to feel like a resort and be their escape from the everyday bustle. With 1800 sq ft at our disposal, we were tasked with crafting functional zones around an existing pool whilst ensuring ample space and comfort. When designing relaxing spaces what I always look at first is creating wide pathways through the space since negative space is actually what your mind registers as calming. From there we created distinct zones within the backyard. The most common zones are dining, lounging, swimming, and cooking. These zones need to be very functional to allow the areas between them to be as open as possible.
Once your zones are designated now comes the fun puzzle of maximizing storage. When everything has a place it decreases clutter and gives your mind permission to relax. We also wanted to play off the gorgeous valley view and really let nature shine so all the furniture is in a calming neutral palette. Organic neutrals for the stone and large furniture pieces assures that the base of your design is routed in calming colors. Last but not least we wanted plants, plants, and more plants. Each zone is lined with plants to break up the hard lines of concrete. All the plants also have their own drip system so they’re very low maintenance.
