In this Truckee, California abode traditional elements of East Coast living blend with the relaxed charm of West Coast design. Katie, of KTG Design, layered each space with richly patterned textiles and natural textures to evoke a rich, lived-in and highly personalized feeling. From the designer… With the homeowners originating from the East Coast, there was a deliberate effort to imbue their new West Coast residence with echoes of their roots. Inspired by the timeless elegance of Connecticut architecture, our design aimed to blend traditional elements with contemporary functionality. From conception to completion, the project was a journey of meticulous planning and creative problem-solving. One standout moment occurred early in the design process when our team completely reimagined the grand feature wall in the kitchen, transforming it into a captivating encased range wall. Bringing this idea to life was a pivotal point, showcasing the power of teamwork and collaborative decision-making while adding a unique focal point to the open living concept.
The clients instilled tremendous trust into our team right from the get-go, allowing us to indulge in all the details that make a significant impact while incorporating the “vision” that set the tone from day one. The homeowners were actively involved in the design process, contributing to decisions about color schemes, fixtures, finishes, and custom furniture adorned with plaids, patterns, and textured fabrics, ensuring the final result was a true reflection of their dream family home.
The design features a variety of materials, creating a rich and textured aesthetic. For example, in the primary bath, the wire-brushed alder cabinets with ribbed detailing bring a rustic yet refined element to the space. Hand-selected Collemandina marble slabs are used for the countertops, shower niches, and shower door surround, adding both visual depth and a sense of luxury. To maintain cohesion with the rest of the home, a mix of brass and polished nickel hardware finishes were intentionally combined, introducing a subtle elegance.
Ultimately, this project beautifully marries traditional and contemporary elements, resulting in a home that is both elegant and practical. The careful blend of East Coast charm and West Coast style captures the homeowners’ vision while highlighting the team’s commitment to exceptional design. Every thoughtful detail contributes to a cohesive and sophisticated space. This home is a testament to the power of collaboration and trust, promising to be a cherished retreat for the family for many years to come.
